Dr. Diniz investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neuroinflammation, with a particular focus on how distinct T-cell subsets modulate astrocyte and microglial responses and contribute to neurological dysfunction. Her research explores how peripheral immune activation influences T-cell recruitment, accumulation, and spatial distribution within the brain, and how interactions between T cells and resident glial cells shape the neuroinflammatory microenvironment.
Her work aims to understand how different T-cell populations regulate glial function, potentially promoting, controlling, or resolving neuroinflammatory responses and influencing neurodegenerative processes. By integrating experimental animal models, advanced three-dimensional brain imaging, tissue clearing, flow cytometry, and in vitro cellular approaches, Dr. Diniz seeks to characterize T-cell–glia interactions and identify the molecular pathways involved in these processes. Her research also seeks to uncover mechanisms linking immune dysregulation to neurodegeneration and identify potential therapeutic targets for neurological diseases.
